A native of Melbourne, Australia, Genevieve Twomey joined Washington DC’s Cathedral Choral Society as Executive Director in October of 2013. Ms. Twomey began her career in arts management in 1996, having won an Orchestra Management Fellowship with the League of American Orchestras, completing residencies with the Pacific, Baltimore, and Detroit symphony orchestras. Following the League Fellowship, she accepted a position with the Detroit Symphony as Operations Manager. In 2000, she became Orchestra Manager for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. In September of 2004, Ms. Twomey was promoted to the position of General Manager with the PSO. In addition to concert production and touring activities, responsibilities as General Manager included union relations, contract negotiations and maintaining the orchestra and operations budget for a $30 million budget orchestra. From 2000 to 2008, Ms. Twomey managed multiple Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra tours with performances in 14 countries across the North America, Europe, South America, Australia and the Far East. In 2008 Ms. Twomey was recruited to the Executive Director position with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, a vibrant and exciting orchestra, with a core of 52 full-time musicians, a youth orchestra program spanning five ensembles, a 38-week concert season and an annual budget of $5 million. Under her leadership, the KWS saw significant growth in its audience and donor base. In 2010, Ms. Twomey was named one of Waterloo Region Record's Top 40 Under 40.
