From Startup to Sustainable: Growing a Community Chorus

Location
Millennium Hall
Session Type
Special Event/Performance
Session Subtype
Breakout Session

Now in its seventh season, the Young Professionals Choral Collective (YPCC) in Cincinnati has built a thriving community choir with over 1,200 singers on its roster and a sold-out season of thematic, collaborative concerts. The group’s first five years were focused on its internal singing community, curating partnerships and experiences for singers, and setting itself up as a gateway to the thriving arts culture and cool happenings in its city. Now YPCC’s small staff, strong board and motivated singers are turning their attention to external storytelling and audience development as they prepare for bigger gifts and grant funding. They have completed their first strategic plan and have seen their model successfully replicated in the newly formed Denver Choir League. Founding Artistic Directors KellyAnn Nelson (YPCC) and Katy Lushman (DCL) will share data, findings, thoughts and stories from the start-up moments to the sustainability conversations.

This session is part of the Choral Entreprenuer track.
