SingAsana: The Physical and Mental Posture for Singing

Location
Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, 3680 Walnut Street
Session Type
Special Event/Performance
Session Subtype
Breakout Session

This introductory session focuses on aligning the body/instrument, with discussion of essential anatomy and ergonomics for singers. We will go way beyond finding optimal posture—expanding the concept of ‘posture’ to include preparation for the breath, breath management, internal proprioception, vowel shapes, body energy, concentration, and listening. We will sing, play games, and do exercises that will help build an holistic sense of singing posture. Stage fright, focus, and other non-physical aspects of singing will also be addressed through discussion of meditation, the energy body (Chakras), and yoga philosophy. Learn to put all the myriad difficult pieces of choral singing together into a unified posture—SingAsana—that you can find each time you sing.
