SingAsana: The Physical and Mental Posture for Singing

Session Type
Special Event/Performance
Session Subtype
Breakout Session
Conference Topics
Singing

This introductory session focuses on aligning the body/instrument, with discussion of essential anatomy and ergonomics for singers. Tadasana (mountain pose) is the foundation of all standing yoga poses, and the perfect jumping-off place for exploring optimal posture. We will sing, play games and do exercises that help with breath, proprioception, strengthening the ‘problem areas,’ balance, and endurance for singing. We will also address stage fright, concentration, and other non-physical aspects of singing through discussion of meditation, the energy body (Chakras), and yoga philosophy.

Introduction: Kelsey Menehan, contributing writer and editor, Chorus America
