Charlotte Botha

Dr. Charlotte Botha is an Assistant Professor and the Director of Choral Activities at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, where she conducts the Hamilton Voices choral theatre ensemble and the College Choir, and teaches music theory and musicology. Her research interests include choral diction, text-painting, joy, and equitable practices for including the music of and by marginalized communities in choral programs. Hailing from South Africa, her tenure as conductor of the Drakensberg Boys Choir solidified her passion for making music with and composing for young singers. Botha has performed and presented workshops around the globe, most notably as a member of the World Youth Choir alumni group TIME Ensemble. Botha has worked extensively with mixed and equal-voice singers from various backgrounds as conductor, honor choir clinician, and composer. This year’s guest conducting engagements have included the Alabama Vocal Association TTBB HS All-State Honor Choir, Women of Song Festival at Ball State University in Indiana, Missouri Choral Directors Association SATB MS/JH All-State Honor Choir, and Texas Choral Directors Association SATB MS/JH All-State Honor Choir, and presentation sessions in South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, and Iowa. She holds a DMA from The University of North Texas, an MMus from Nelson Mandela University, and a BMus from the University of Pretoria.
