POLYPHONOS: Bringing a World of Choral Inspiration (Three Composers at a Time)

Session Type
Special Event/Performance
Session Subtype
Breakout Session

In 2006, The Esoterics inaugurated POLYPHONOS, its annual competition for contemporary choral composition. Since its founding, the competition has awarded an international roster of 21 choral composers $1,000 to compose a 5-minute piece, as well as an all-expense-paid trip to Seattle to hear the premiere and discuss their work with an always-curious Seattle audience.  Join The Esoterics’ founding director, composer-in-residence, and members of Seattle’s “a cappella addicts” to discuss how POLYPHONOS began and grew, and to read through excerpts of award-winning pieces by such choral luminaries as Abbie Betinis, Bernard Hughes, Christina Whitten Thomas, Eduardo Malachevsky, Joshua Fishbein, Nilo Alcala, Rita Ueda, Shawn Crouch, and Zachary Wadsworth.
