Our Conference hosts, The Choral Arts Society of Washington and The Washington Chorus, collaborate on a special concert with a Washington, DC focus. Hundreds of singers in the combined choruses will perform works by American composers, including celebrating the DC-area’s rich African-American musical heritage. The Children’s Chorus of Washington’s Concert Chorus is a guest ensemble for the concert. The program concludes with a concert version of Leonard Bernstein’s MASS, a work commissioned for the opening of the Kennedy Center in 1971.In addition to marking the opening of Chorus America's 2014 Conference, this event is part of the Kennedy Center’s choral series, Voices of Our Nation.

For more information about the premiere of MASS, see this article from the Choral Arts Society of Washington.
