Wendy Moy Appointed as Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus Director

Following a recent search for a new director, the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus (ECSC) has appointed Wendy K. Moy as its Director. Ms. Moy succeeds past ECSC Director Mark Singleton, who led the Chorus for nearly 20 years, and heralded in a period of growth and artistic vibrancy. ECSO Music Director, Toshiyuki Shimada, was quoted as saying “Mark Singleton has created a chorus that any orchestral conductor would dream of collaborating with. After our intensive search for a new director, I am confident that Wendy Moy will be an excellent leader and will continue Mark’s legacy of building our beloved chorus.”

Upon notification of her selection, Wendy Moy had the following statement: "I am excited to join the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus as their new Director. I look forward to getting to know the musicians and creating beautiful and engaging music together."

President and member of the ECSC, Kathy Walburn, voiced excitement for the future in saying “Mark’s accomplishments with the chorus were remarkable in shaping and directing our sound for the past 18 years, making us one of the most accomplished singing groups in the area. He will be missed. But as one door closes, another always opens, and we are very excited to embrace the next stage of our musical journey with Wendy Moy!”

Ms. Moy will lead the Chorus in preparation for their two classical concert appearances with the ECSO on Saturday, November 17, 2018 and Saturday, April 27, 2019. Additionally, she will prepare and direct the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus for their concerts in the fall and winter.

About Wendy Moy: 

Wendy K. Moy is the Director of Choral Activities and Music Education at Connecticut College and the Co-Artistic Director of Chorosynthesis Singers. She is frequently sought as a guest conductor and clinician and recently made her conducting debuts in Brazil and China. Recent honors include placing 3rd in The American Prize in Choral Conducting (professional division) and being selected as a Fellow in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) International Conductors Exchange Program. She performs as a soprano soloist and currently sings in CONCORA as well as Chorosynthesis Singers when not conducting. A violinist since the age of four, Wendy held the positions of violin coach, chamber music coordinator, and assistant conductor with the Cascade Youth Symphony Organization. She has presented her ethnographic research on the culture of successful singing communities at conferences around the world. She serves on the ACDA Standing Committee on International Activities and multiple grant selection panels. Wendy holds a Masters of Music Education from Westminster Choir College and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington. About the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus: 

The Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus (ECSC) was founded as a subsidiary of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra in 1967 with Connecticut College Choral Director James F. Armstrong directing. The ECSC is comprised of approximately 80 volunteer, auditioned singers of all ages. They perform with the ECSO annually in a subscription concert as well as independently in two choral repertoire concerts, a December holiday concert, and Palm Sunday concerts in Norwich.
