True Concord's 22-23 Season Opening

Multiple premieres marked True Concord's September 30-October 2 season opening shows:  Timothy C. Takach's Helios, a musical and visual exploration of the solar system in its Southwest premiere; the world premiere of visuals by Deborah Johnson; the debut of actor John de Lancie, best known for his role as Star Trek's "Q", in a spoken prologue; and True Concord's first performances of the final movement of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with pianist Alexander Tentser playing Liszt's piano transcription. AZPM Classical Music Director James Reel stated, "The music, setting perfectly apt yet unhackneyed texts, is harmonically lush and lyrical without being commercially tuneful. … The choir’s achingly beautiful performance and Johnson’s sometimes photographic, sometimes abstract video help hold attention through the entire journey." In January 2023, we look forward to presenting the world premiere of another True Concord commission, Jocelyn Hagen's Here I Am.
