True Concord Voices & Orchestra Video Garners EMMY® Nomination!

For Immediate Release. Tucson, Arizona. September, 2021—GRAMMY® nominated True Concord Voices & Orchestra announces that one of its recent video performances has received an EMMY nomination. During the 2020-21 season, True Concord streamed video performances of their groundbreaking “bubble” season, reaching local audiences as well as audiences across the globe. These performances were made possible through a collaboration with Arizona PBS, Alex Kosiorek, Senior Audio Engineer. The nomination is in the "Audio Live or Post Produced" category of the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.  Alex Kosiorek is the named nominee in this category as senior audio engineer.  (There is no category for musical performance.)

Upon hearing the news of the nomination, True Concord founder and Music Director Eric Holtan said “It’s thrilling and affirming to have True Concord’s video concert production recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, especially as part of our efforts to reach people affected by the pandemic.” In addition, Holtan said that “Alex and his team at Arizona PBS are professionals par excellence, and it was a joy to make this production and all of our “bubble” productions with them for the enjoyment and enrichment of True Concord’s fans around the world.”

The work performed in the nominated video is Stephen Paulus’s A Savior From On High, featuring True Concord's choir, Catherine Hedberg, mezzo-soprano, Sara Fraker, oboe, and Christine Vivona, harp.  https://www.yout   ube.com/watch?v=5nPc4LqVT3c.

In 2015, True Concord was honored to be recognized by the Recording Academy with a GRAMMY® win for Best Contemporary Classical Composition and a nomination for Best Choral Performance for Far From Heavens: Choral Music of Stephen Paulus. In November 2019, True Concord Voices & Orchestra celebrated the release of their second CD Christmas with True Concord, Carols In the American Voice (Reference Recordings). This recording reached #5 on Billboard Traditional Classical Chart, WFMT Chicago's Top 10 Classical Christmas Albums of 2019 and MPR/APM Favorite Holiday Albums Based on a Theme.

True Concord celebrates this latest recognition as a result of its commitment to and investment in the making of high-quality videos featuring True Concord artists and its efforts to serve audiences during the pandemic. True Concord produced 7 videos with Arizona PBS along with 23 live outdoor concerts in the 2020-21 season as part of its "Bubble."

True Concord Voices & Orchestra opens its 2021-22 Season entitled A NEW DAY, October 22-24, 2021, with From Darkness to Light. During the past year True Concord has, like many in the country and across the world, listened, noticed and reflected on where we are and who we want to be. From those reflections the 2021-22 season was born with programs exploring and addressing shared human conditions, challenges and responsibilities. The music performed will include two world premieres, each commissioned by True Concord and created by leading, young American composers, and performances by Metropolitan Opera superstar Susanna Phillips, soprano. The six-program series includes concerts titled From Darkness to Light, From Conflict to Peace, From Anticipation to Joy- Lessons & Carols by Candlelight, From Silenced to Singing, From the Edge to Hope, and From Mourning to Dancing, and is scheduled to begin October 22, 2021 and conclude March 27, 2022. In this 18th season, Southern Arizona’s only professional chamber choir and orchestra reflects on transition, aspiration and transformation.

The concert season, each with multiple performances, is scheduled at various acoustically superb venues located throughout Tucson and Southern Arizona. Full season subscriptions, flexible subscriptions, and individual tickets may be purchased at trueconcord.org or by calling 520-401-2651.

Under the leadership of Music Director Eric Holtan, True Concord Voices & Orchestra continues to develop innovative programming. During this past 14 months, True Concord refused to go silent in spite of the huge challenges posed by COVID-19. It nimbly adapted to the pandemic, creating a safe “bubble” for artists, strict health protocols for audiences and two concentrated seasons of live, outdoor and video-streamed concerts that reached long-standing devotees and new audiences across the globe. This remarkable accomplishment was noted by the National Endowment for the Arts which identified arts organizations leading the way in transition and perseverance in an article titled The Art of Reopening: A Guide to Current Practice Among Arts Organizations During COVID-19: https://www.arts.gov/sites/default/files/The%20Art-of-Reopening.pdf.  Closer to home True Concord’s successful efforts to continue through the pandemic were recognized with a StartUp Tucson Resiliency Award.
