Tampa Bay Children's Chorus Celebrates 25th Anniversary

This season marks the twenty-fifth season of the Tampa Bay Children’s Chorus. A celebratory concert on May 10 will feature alumni singers and a newly commissioned work by Tampa native Kurt Knecht, a music faculty member at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. The piece is an SA setting of the Irish blessing “May the blessing of the rain be on you.” Featured guest artist will be TBCC alumnus Carl DuPont, a professional bass-baritone with degrees from Eastman and Indiana University, who will conduct his own piece, “If I Had Wings.” He originally conducted the piece with TBCC at the age of eleven on a major concert. Over TBCC’s first quarter-century the group has commissioned a number of works by American composers, toured nationally and internationally, performed frequently with The Florida Orchestra, and sponsored many singers at national honor choirs and workshops. The group was founded by its Artistic Director, Dr. Averill Summer, formerly a music faculty member at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
