Michael McCarthy, former Director of Music of the Washington National Cathedral, has been named Executive Director of the national award-winning Susquehanna Chorale.  Mr. McCarthy will be responsible for all non-artistic aspects of the organization. The Harrisburg-based organization is undergoing administrative and operational changes as it anticipates the future retirement of its artistic director, founder, and conductor, Linda L. Tedford, and the eventual hiring of her successor.

McCarthy, a native of London, England, brings to the job extensive experience as a singer, conductor, and arts administrator. He has both managed and performed with some of the world’s great choirs, and has worked extensively with children’s choirs, including a boys’ choir that provided music for Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings soundtracks.

The Chorale was founded in 1981 by Ms. Tedford, and is comprised of 40 auditioned adult singers. The organization also includes four choirs for children and youth.
