SLOTS STILL OPEN FOR AVSHALOMOV "WATER SONGS" CONSORTIUM

There is still time for more choruses to join the commissioning consortium for "Three Water Songs" by David Avshalomov, co-sponsored by Deborah Simpkin King (Project:Encore, Ember). Deadline is Dec. 15. Suitable for advanced high school to professional choruses; fees on a sliding scale by type ($100 to $250).

First two poems:

ALL DAY I HEAR THE NOISE OF WATERS

by James Joyce

All day I hear the noise of waters making moan,

Sad as the sea-bird is when, going forth alone,

He hears the winds cry to the water's monotone.

The grey winds, the cold winds are blowing where I go.

I hear the noise of many waters far below.

All day, all night, I hear them flowing to and fro.

WATERFALL AT LU-SHAN

by Li Po

Sunlight streams on the river stones.

From high above, the river steadily plunges--

three thousand feet of sparkling water--

the Milky Way pouring down from heaven.

Third text: Avshalomov's own rant/chant text about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

Avshalomov update: "I have finished the first setting; the second is in draft. I encourage choruses to jump in now."
