Member David Avshalomov wins American Prize for Composition 2015

Chorus America member David Avshalomov has just won First Place in the American Prize 2015 competition for Band Composition. The winning work was "Vignettes," a suite of supershort high-character miniatures for reduced scoring based on his findings from his 2013 online survey of US community bands. It was co-commissioned by an international consortium of 26 bands. His previous American Prize awards include 3rd place for Band Composition in 2014 (for "The Last Stand", commissioned by a US consortium of 15 bands), a 2012 Special Judges' Citation for Unique Artistic Achievement and Distinctive Merit (for "Trotzky's Train" for piano and strings), and having several choral works reach Semifinalist standing across 4 years. His "I Bend the Knee of My Heart" for chorus won the ACDA Silver Platter Award 2012 for Choral Repertoire of Outstanding Quality and 2 other awards.
