The Jameson Singers is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Kevin Leong as its next Music Director, beginning in July. Dr. Leong is currently Music Director of the Boston-based Masterworks Chorale and the Concord Chorus and previously served as Associate Conductor of the Harvard‐Radcliffe Choruses at Harvard University. He succeeds Jameson Marvin, former Director of Choral Activities at Harvard, who founded the group in 2010.

“The Board unanimously chose Dr. Leong for his understanding of the vocal instrument, his deep knowledge of choral music, and his artistic expression,” says Lisa Rucinski, President of the Jameson Singers. “My announcement to the full chorus that he was to be our next conductor was met with thunderous applause. As a longtime protégé of Jim Marvin, we feel Kevin is best positioned both to carry on the Jameson Singers tradition and to bring us to new heights.”

“Jim Marvin has been one of the most influential musical figures in my life,” says new Music Director Kevin Leong. “I was extremely fortunate to have not only sung under his direction for many years but also had him as a colleague at Harvard. What he taught us as students I use in my work as a conductor every day. Being a part of the Jameson Singers feels like coming home, and I am very much looking forward to our first season together.”

Kevin Leong has been Music Director of the Masterworks Chorale since 2017 and of the Concord Chorus since 2012. He previously served for eight years as Associate Conductor of the Harvard-Radcliffe Choruses at Harvard University, where he directed the Harvard-Radcliffe Chorus and, with Jameson Marvin, co-conducted the Harvard Glee Club, the Radcliffe Choral Society, and the Harvard-Radcliffe Collegium Musicum. Dr. Leong earned a doctoral degree in Choral Conducting from Boston University, where he studied with Ann Howard Jones, David Hoose, Jeremy Yudkin, and Craig Smith. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in choral conducting and choral literature at Harvard and Boston University and has won several teaching awards.

Founded in 2010 by Jameson Marvin, former Director of Choral Activities at Harvard University, the Jameson Singers has become one of the premiere vocal ensembles in the Boston area. Their repertoire spans the 15th to the 21st centuries and ranges from a cappella motets to choral-orchestral masterworks. Known for its highly expressive and nuanced choral sound, the 70-voice ensemble was singled out by the Boston Musical Intelligencer for singing with “passion, impeccable intonation, and blend.”

The Jameson Singers is a member of the Greater Boston Choral Consortium, a cooperative association of diverse choral groups in the greater Boston area.
