The Fairfax Choral Society is thrilled to host a gala performance in honor of its 60th anniversary season.
The choirs of the Choral Society, along with special guest The Children’s Chorus of Washington, Margaret Nomura Clark-director, will present Dan Forrest’s Jubilate Deo. They will be joined by internationally acclaimed Soprano Simone Paulwell.
This work brings to life the global aspect of the traditional Psalm 100 text, “O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands,” by setting it in seven different languages and drawing from a wide spectrum of musical influences. Each movement combines some characteristics of its language-group’s musical culture with the composer’s own musical language. Movements include liturgical Latin, intertwined Hebrew and Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Zulu, Spanish, Song of the Earth, and a closing movement combining several of these languages with English. The result is a stunning global celebration of joy, as all the earth sings as one.
The performance will include the premiere of a commissioned piece by the award-winning composer Nolan Williams, Jr., The Plains of Peace with lyrics by Olivia Ward Bush-Banks from her same titled poem.
It’s an event 60 years in the making and you don’t want to miss out on the excitement. Get your tickets today.
