To amplify and promote Maria Ellis and her work is a top priority for the Colorado Children’s Chorale. As a Black female conductor, Ms. Ellis understands the importance of representation and hopes to inspire the next generation of musicians. Per her request, under our Education Program and in her role as the Chorale’s 2022-2023 Conductor-in-Residence, she rehearsed with choirs in Denver area schools which are predominantly Black. Between February 28 and March 3, she worked with 13 choirs in seven schools: Vista Peak Preparatory, Gateway High School, MLK, Jr. Early College, Rangeview High School, Overland High School, George Washington High School, Prairie Middle School.

Ms. Ellis also worked with members in the Colorado Children’s Chorale Performance Program. The week culminated with her conducting several pieces, Black Spirituals and Gospel music, during the So Many Voices concert in the historic Montview Presbyterian Church..
