Chorus America, the advocacy, research and leadership development organization serving the field of choral music, has been honored with two ASCAP Deems Taylor Awards for its website chorusamerica.org and its magazine The Voice. The ASCAP Deems Taylor Awards are presented annually to American authors and journalists whose books, articles and liner notes on the subject of music are selected for their excellence.

Chorus America won a Deems Taylor Media award for its new website, which integrates content from the organization’s publications and research into an easily accessed format. The site offers hundreds of articles, how-to videos and other resources for the choral community, and includes tools that allow users to personalize their online experience, share favorite pieces, post news items and more.

The Voice magazine, Chorus America’s quarterly publication, was named one of this year’s Publisher winners for the article “The Rights Thing: A Chorus Guide to Getting the Proper Permissions” written by longtime contributor Matthew Sigman. The Voice has been published continuously since the founding of Chorus America in 1977.

“We are absolutely delighted to be recognized with these special awards,” said Chorus America’s President and CEO Ann Meier Baker. “Providing high quality content to the choral field has long been a priority here at Chorus America, and thanks to special contributions from our board of directors and months of work by each and every member of our staff, the new website allows us to take that content to the next level. We have been gratified by our constituents’ feedback about the value of our website and the continued value of our magazine, so this prestigious recognition from ASCAP is especially meaningful.”

Chorus America will be honored at a special reception for Deems Taylor Award winners on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the ASCAP Gallery, One Lincoln Plaza in New York City.
