Cappella SF is delighted to announce the release of its fourth album, MASS TRANSMISSION: CHORAL WORKS BY MASON BATES, a collaboration of conductor and composer. This is the world-premiere recording of the work from which the album takes its name, Mass Transmission, which combines the ethereal singing of Cappella SF, the beats and samples of Mason Bates and the virtuosic organ of Isabelle Demers. It also includes Sirens, Bates’ 2009 six-movement masterpiece for 12-part a capella chorus and also an electronica "mash-up" called Rag of Ragnar,  composed especially for him and played by Mason Bates himself for this recording.

Named by Musical America as the 2018 Composer of the Year, as well as composer-in-residence at the Kennedy Center, Grammy-winner Mason Bates is one of the most-performed composer of his generation, widely recognized for his powerful music that combines conventional performing forces with electronic sounds. Ragnar Bohlin, also with two Grammy Awards to his name, is known for his leadership of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus and was honored with the 2018 Michael Korn Founders Award for the Development of the Professional Choral Art.
