The trend toward exploring choral activity outside the Western tradition is nothing new. Singers at nearly every level, for example, now explore repertoire from Asia, sing in languages spoken in Africa, or even travel to countries outside Europe. As the North American choral community continues to explore, travel, and work with singers outside our tradition, it is important that we broaden and deepen our considerations of culturally-specific topics like communication, appropriation, and adaptation. In this panel discussion, three leaders in the choral community explore these topics and share their experiences from their professional work.
