Josephine Lee is an Emmy Award-winning and GRAMMY nominated conductor, pianist, singer, producer, and cultural leader and the president and artistic director of Uniting Voices Chicago, a nationally recognized organization that empowers nearly 4,000 young people each year through
music. Under her leadership, Uniting Voices Chicago has doubled its reach and tripled its budget, establishing the organization as a leading civic and cultural force in the city and beyond. Lee is an active collaborator across genres, working with artists including Yo-Yo Ma, Chance the Rapper, and Karol G, and her ensembles have appeared on PBS Great Performances and performed at venues
from the Kennedy Center to the Korean Demilitarized Zone. She is a recognized voice in music as cultural diplomacy, with performances and tours spanning five continents, and she has conducted the National Philharmonic, Oregon Symphony, Grant Park Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony
Orchestra, among others. A champion of new work, Lee has led recordings including Terra Nostra and Pitch In, and her composition Multiverse is available on all streaming platforms. In 2007, she conducted for the first public talks in Chicago featuring the Dalai Lama, reflecting her longstanding commitment to music as a platform for dialogue and peace. Her honors include the Kennedy Center’s National Committee for the Performing Arts Award for Arts Advocacy, a fellowship at Harvard Business School, and the 3Arts Award.
