The Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia, hosts of the 2019 Chorus America Conference, present Thursday night's Host Concert at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts under the direction of artistic director Paul Rardin. One of America’s longest-standing musical ensembles, the Mendelssohn Club is currently performing its 145th season.

The concert is the Philadelphia premiere of Academy Award-winning composer Tan Dun's Water Passion after St. Matthew.  The piece alludes to the Passions of J.S. Bach, yet is distinguished by the distinctive sounds of string instruments imitating the Chinese ehru and Mongolian horse-head fiddle. East truly meets West as vocal soloists not only sing, but play xun (a Chinese flute), while percussionists “play” water poured into 17 large, clear bowls arranged in the shape of a cross.

Conference registrants receive a special discount code to purchase tickets for this concert. Refer to your conference registration email for the code. You can purchase regularly priced tickets on the Annenberg Center website here.
