This seminar will be highly participatory and include the differing perspectives of administrative and artistic directors, board members, and other volunteers. Participants will gain an understanding of the importance of clarity of purpose and values as well as strategies and behaviors that build trust and confidence with board, administrative, and artistic staff and volunteers.

Session elements will include:

  • Effective Leadership: This enables the accomplishment of common goals in a manner consistent with shared values. Participants will explore what this means in practice as both leaders and supporters of the leadership of others.
  • Satisfying Leadership: What makes the work of leading satisfying both to the people providing leadership as well as to those being led? Participants will discover the relationship between satisfaction and accomplishment and how their actions can improve the quality of both the process and outcome of their work.
  • Sustainable Leadership: Organizations require sustained leadership, not just bursts of brilliance. Nurturing energy, creativity, and commitment is critical to the ongoing vitality of individuals and organizations. Participants will learn about the less obvious causes of burnout and the strategies they can use to sustain individual and organizational health.
