Nick Adams

I’m Nick, founder and principal at Nick Adams Searches. Throughout my two-decade journey in arts administration, I've experienced some of the industry's most transformative moments. From navigating the challenges of the Great Recession at the start of my career in 2007 to simultaneously managing a nationwide music director search during the pandemic, I've developed a gritty, resilient, and passionate approach to arts leadership. My path began as a professional trombonist with the United States Air Force Heartland of America Band, which provided me with a unique perspective on the intricate dynamics of musical organizations. I’m also an avocational tenor and keyboardist, allowing for a broad perspective of the performing arts.
In arts administration - where I’m still employed full-time as an Executive Director - I've found my true calling. A music director search in 2021-2022 became a pivotal moment that ignited my enthusiasm for organizational transformation. The process of backwards planning, navigating difficult conversations, and connecting with inspirational candidates proved to be not just a professional challenge, but a genuine source of excitement and optimism. Since that formative experience, I've been actively involved in a number of additional searches, co-chairing and serving on selection committees while adding several organizations as professional clients. Through these experiences, I've developed a strategic method that offers small and mid-size arts organizations a thoughtful approach to leadership transitions. Based in Framingham, Massachusetts, I share my home with my wife and two children—all musicians—who continue to inspire my lifelong commitment to the arts and its expression.
