Jayson Smart

Jayson Smart (he/him/his) joined Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies (MACP) in April 2018 as program director for the Arts & Cultures domain. In this role, Jayson oversees the domain program team in building, managing, and evaluating effective grantmaking programs in the areas of Music Education, Native Arts & Cultures, and Folk Arts & Cultures.

Jayson has worked in philanthropy since 2010, prior to MACP working as a senior program officer with Rasmuson Foundation, a private family foundation based in Anchorage Alaska. In that role Jayson managed the foundation’s portfolio in arts and culture and worked on special topics in health and education. He has previously held positions in arts and education administration, with a focus on performing arts presenting and touring. He formerly served as deputy director with the Municipality of Anchorage Department of Health and Human Services and has a background in social service agency management with a focus on disability advocacy and policy.

Jayson is a past board member of the Anchorage Concert Association, and past trustee of the Alaska Arts and Cultures Foundation and the Alliance of Artists Communities, a national service organization based in Providence, Rhode Island. Jayson holds two degrees from the University of Alaska Anchorage: a master’s degree in public administration with an emphasis in public management; and a bachelor of arts in psychology.
