The Boychoir of Ann Arbor: "A Boychoir Christmas"

December 20 | 7pm EST

Dr. John Boonenberg leads The Boychoir of Ann Arbor in its 34th annual Christmas concert, presented virtually in video for 2020. This non-profit community choir of boys ages 8-18 rehearsed, and recorded, in-person, outside and distanced this fall, and a volunteer video editor has created a virtual concert. As is tradition, the program opens with the iconic Boychoir favorite “Once in royal David’s city,” with the 1st verse sung by a solo boy soprano, and concludes with The Boychoir of Ann Arbor’s perennial closer, John Gardner’s “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day.”

Our theme for our 2020–21 season is “Sing Peace.” A Boychoir Christmas will feature the moving hymn “Before the marvel of this night” by Carl Schalk,  modern favorite “The Peace Carol” by Bob Beers, plus an a cappella arrangement of the classic “Carol of the Bells” with new text by Kirby Shaw. At-home audience is encouraged to sing-along to “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “O Come, All Ye Faithful” featuring soaring Boychoir descant verse.

Video will premiere online at 7 pm Sunday, December 20, and will be available to view for a few days following.

Free; donations suggested in lieu of tickets.
