Lori V. Keyne

Lori Keyne has been a music instructor in higher education for over 20 years. She received her DMA in choral conducting at the University of Arizona in 1992. She currently resides in Bisbee, Arizona and teaches at Cochise College, located near the U.S./Mexico Border. She has taught there for 17 years. During her tenure in southern Arizona, and with the support of the Fulbright scholar program, she helped found the Bi-National Arts Institute (BNAI). This 501(c)3 created the Concert without Borders, an annual event along the U.S./Mexico international border which involves musicians from the U.S. and Mexico. During 2020, this event became virtual, involving a broader set of musicians which also included people from Japan and Switzerland. BNAI focuses on binational arts creation and interchange. With COVID, their focus expanded to include youth and accessible internet. They have joined with binational youth in Naco, Arizona and Sonora to create a youth center called El Centro. BNAI’s programs now include music classes in regional schools, language acquisition classes taught be youth and adults as well as youth job skills. The Concert without Borders returned to the international wall in Naco, AZ/SON in 2022. Children from schools in southern Arizona and northern Sonora sang together at this wall.

Prior to Lori’s time in southern Arizona, she and her husband have spent their time in Virginia, Panama and California where she taught at San Jose State University, Universidad de Panama, and Hollins University.
