Joy Hirokawa

Joy Ondra Hirokawa is assistant professor of music education at Moravian College and founder/artistic director of The Bel Canto Children’s Chorus. She earned a DMA in music education from Boston University, and an MM in choral conducting and bachelor of music education from Temple University. She is a frequent guest conductor/clinician, presenting regularly at ACDA, NAfME and PMEA conferences. Dr. Hirokawa is the current ACDA Eastern Division Repertoire and Standards Chair for Children and Youth Choirs. She taught in the public schools for 20 years prior to her appointment at Moravian College. Under her direction, the Bel Canto Children’s Chorus has performed locally, nationally, and internationally to great acclaim and launched Choral Village, a community education program in 2017.
