Anima-Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus

Now in its 53rd season, Anima—Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus enjoys a reputation as one of the leading children and youth choirs in America. The organization’s rich heritage has served as an artistic and educational model across North America for many years while fulfilling its mission to transform young lives through excellence in music education and choral singing. 

Anima performs regularly in concert locally, nationally, and internationally, and frequently appears with Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Grant Park Symphony, the Chicago Bach Project, and many others. Under Emily Ellsworth’s direction, Anima is the recipient of the Dale Warland Singers Commission Award (2009), the Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence (2008), Chorus America/ASCAP awards for Adventurous Programming (2000 and 2013), as well as awards from the  Library of Congress, the Grammy Foundation, Chicago a cappella, and the village of Glen Ellyn. Anima choristers in 5 ensembles give an average of 40 performances per season and come from 30 different communities. 

Highlights this season include David Lang’s Crowd Out at Millennium Park, a featured performance at the Illinois ACDA state conference, performances of Home Alone with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, featured performances on Chicago Sinfonietta’s Hear Me Roar programs of women composers, a performance as part of the 2018 Chorus America Conference, and a concert tour to Greece.
