VOX Femina Los Angeles

Opening Night Concert

VOX Femina Los Angeles (VOX) gives women voice through the performance of high quality choral literature. Diverse in culture, age, race, belief and sexual identity, VOX is a chorus committed to commissioning new works and raising awareness about issues that affect women. Through the power of music, VOX seeks to create a world that affirms the worth and dignity of every person.

Under the leadership of Founder and Artistic Director Dr. Iris S. Levine, VOX debuted in 1997 with the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA), adding a new dimension to LA's cultural life. The women of VOX sing culturally-diverse repertoire from the Renaissance to contemporary, in a wide range of styles and in many languages. Mayors Riordan and Villaraigosa have recognized VOX's contribution, as have the California Assembly and Senate. In June of last year, VOX was named District Nonprofit of the Year by California State Senator Holly Mitchell, as part of the inaugural California Nonprofits Day. In November 2016, VOX competed in Interkultur’s Golden State Trophy Festival, an international choral competition, earning rave reviews from the judges and placing first in the women’s choirs division.

VOX has commissioned over 40 new works since its founding. In the past six years, VOX has participated in the ACDA Women's Commissioning Consortium, which has commissioned an unprecedented 18 new works.

VOX has collaborated with the LA Philharmonic, LA Master Chorale, Gay Men’ Chorus of Los Angeles, Penninsula Women’s Chorus, and Elektra Women’s Choir, among other artistic partners.
