Recipient of Chorus America’s 2012 ASCAP/Alice Parker Award, conductor David Hodgkins has delighted audiences in the greater Boston area for over 20 years with "creative programs, sung with enthusiasm and tonal beauty". He is the artistic director of Coro Allegro in Boston, artistic director of The New England Classical Singers in Andover, and director of music at The Commonwealth School in Boston. He also teaches advanced conducting at the Kodály Music Institute in Boston, and is a frequent guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician.
Hodgkins has conducted numerous critically acclaimed performances of world and local premieres. In 2012, Hodgkins with Coro Allegro released Awakenings and In Paradisum, two recordings of contemporary works on the Navona label. Gramophone magazine noted of Awakenings that "Coro Allegro, led by David Hodgkins, performs each score with fine balance and interplay.”
Hodgkins has been featured in Choral Director Magazine, The Voice, and the UMass Alumni Magazine. He was the producer for three award-winning CDs by La Donna Musicale and the producer of In the Style of…, a CD of 20th-century works for Terry Everson and Shiela Kibbe for Albany Records.
He received his BM in voice, piano, and harpsichord from the University of Massachusetts, an MM in choral conducting from Temple University in Philadelphia, and fellowships in choral and orchestral conducting at both the Aspen and Sandpoint Music Festivals.
