Children's Chorus of Washington

Now celebrating its 18th season, the Children’s Chorus of Washington (CCW) has taken its place among the finest children’s choruses in the country. CCW performs frequently with leading music organizations in Washington, DC including the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), the Choral Arts Society of Washington, and The Washington Chorus at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performance Arts, Strathmore Music Hall, and other prestigious venues. In addition to providing exceptional training through its five performance ensembles, CCW also has open access programs, most notably PREP CLASS and SING DC program, designed to serve first-time singers and under-resourced students in the community.

CCW’s five performing ensembles feature more than 160 young singers between ages 9 and 18, representing over 90 public and private schools in the greater Washington, DC area. Founded by Joan Gregoryk in 1996, the chorus made its debut at the Kennedy Center with the Washington Chorus in a performance of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony. In 1997, at the invitation of Maestro Leonard Slatkin, then-Music Director of NSO, CCW gave premiere performances of The Children’s Crusade by Gabriel Pierne, in collaboration with NSO and The Washington Chorus, at the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall.

Among its accomplishments, CCW was recognized as the Choral Group winner of the 2011 Washington Area Music Awards (“Wammies”), and was honored with the Best Educational Outreach award at the 2012 Greater Washington Area Choral Excellence Awards (“Ovations”).
