This year, the Northwest Girlchoir community celebrates 40 years of transforming the lives of girls and young women through music education and artistic excellence. Northwest Girlchoir serves over 250 singers, ages 6-18, in six different choir levels. Choristers learn musicianship, vocal technique, and performance and leadership skills through their work with outstanding and inspiring teachers, diverse and high-quality repertoire, and supportive peers.
Northwest Girlchoir performs in Seattle and across the Puget Sound in season concerts, collaborations with area arts organizations (recently, Seattle Pro Musica, Choral Arts, and the Seattle Symphony), guest appearances (the Seattle Art Museum), and outreach and community events (Folklife Festival, Christmas Ships). This season includes collaborations with Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble and Boston composer and song leader Nick Page. Choristers also have the opportunity to share their music through participation in regional, national, and international choral festivals and tours. Recent festival appearances include: the Ft. Worden Choral Festival in Port Townsend, WA, PICCFEST (Pacific International Children’s Choir Festival) in Eugene, OR; Sing a Mile High Festival in Denver, CO; American Masterpieces Choral Festival in Seattle; and Festival 500 in Newfoundland, Canada. Northwest Girlchoir’s recent tours include performances in Finland and Estonia, Australia, Croatia and Slovenia, and Italy. This year, Northwest Girlchoir ensembles will travel to England and France and Los Angeles.
