Barbara M. Tagg

Dr. Barbara M. Tagg has long championed choral excellence. A 37-year faculty member at Syracuse University, she conducted the SU Women’s Choir for two decades and founded the Syracuse Children’s Chorus, serving as its artistic director for 30 years. With SCC, she earned two ASCAP/Chorus America Awards for Adventurous Programming. Tagg has commissioned and premiered more than 90 treble works by leading composers from the United States, Great Britain, Canada, and Asia, and has presented concerts and workshops across three continents. She is the author of Before the Singing (Oxford University Press) and numerous articles. Her professional service includes national leadership roles in ACDA, 10-year former board member of Chorus America and ongoing committee work. Tagg currently serves as president of VEST (Elmira, NY), and is a board member of the Sarasota Young Voices and the Gregg Smith Singers. She remains active as a consultant, researcher, and writer. She is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Pi Kappa Lambda, and an honorary board member of the Ernst Bacon Foundation.
