Miguel Ángel Felipe

American born conductor Dr. Miguel Ángel Felipe is director of choral activities and assistant professor of music at the University of Hawai‘i, Mānoa, in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. At the University, he directs the three main choral ensembles, teaches music education students, and collaborates with the other conductors in the UH system. Felipe also serves as director of music and liturgy at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu, one of the state’s most prominent musical congregations. There, he directs the three choirs, Bach Chamber Orchestra, Abendmusiken Concert Series, and the liturgical events of a robust faith community.

As a clinician and workshop leader, Felipe has appeared at festivals in Southeast Asia, South America, and in the US. This coming fall he will visit Stockholm, Göteborg, and Piteå, Sweden, as an invited guest of the Swedish Choral Directors Association. He has spoken and presented at conferences of The American Choral Director's Association (ACDA), Chorus America, The Society for Ethnomusicology (SEM), and The American Comparative Literature Association (ACLA). As an educator, Felipe has led choirs at numerous schools having served on the faculties of Oberlin College & Conservatory, Mt. Holyoke College, The Boston Conservatory, and Brown University.

Felipe serves as a national board member of the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) and as a member of the leadership for the Hawai‘i chapter of ACDA. He is also a proud member of Chorus America, SEM, and the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM). He earned his BM at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and his MM and DMA at Boston University where he studied with Ann Howard Jones, David Hoose, and Craig Smith.
