Kimberly D. Meisten has spent her career connecting art, music, and history with communities of all ages and cultural backgrounds. Since joining VocalEssence as director of community engagement in 2007, she has taken a leadership role in the development of new educational initiatives such as ¡Cantaré!, a unique program bringing the talents of composers from Mexico directly into Minnesota classrooms. Working closely with K-12 music and classroom teachers, she also develops curriculum materials, which are available through the WITNESS and ¡Cantaré! School Programs, and the VocalEssence Music Press. She is committed to practical evaluation processes that help improve experience and engagement.
Prior to her work at VocalEssence, Kimberly spent ten years working in the museum field as director of public programs at The Baltimore Museum of Art in Maryland and as associate curator of education at Winterthur, an American Country Estate in Delaware. Meisten graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1994 with a BA in music, and in 1996, earned her MA at the Cooperstown Graduate Program in history museum studies. She is an active singer and has performed with the Full and Symphonic Choruses of the Baltimore Choral Arts Society, the Twin Cities-based chamber choir Kantorei, and the Minnesota Chorale.
