Concert: Magnum Chorum and The Singers

Session Subtype
Concert

Magnum Chorum, a 50-voice chamber choir recognized for its transforming artistry and spirit with roots in the St. Olaf choral tradition, and The Singers, a professional chorus featuring some of the Twin Cities' finest vocalists, will share the stage for what is sure to be an exceptional afternoon of music. Dynamic conductors Christopher Aspaas and Matthew Culloton will present performances not to be missed!

Magnum Chorum’s program draws on the ensemble’s roots in the sacred choral tradition and opens with Today Heaven Sings by Kenneth Jennings, the third conductor of the St. Olaf Choir who helped inspire the founding of Magnum Chorum. Two works by young composers include Patrick Burzlaff’s Psalm 46 (There Is a River) and Ce Soir Mon Coeur by Stanford Scriven, Magnum Chorum’s first composer-in-residence. The program concludes with F. Melius Christiansen’s Psalm 50, a powerful and elegant statement of enduring faith.

The Singers will perform Irving Fine's choral masterpiece, The Hour Glass suite, along with Abbie Betinis' French-inspired Carmina mei cordis. The program will close with glimpses into Americana.
