The Cantus Collaborative Choral Experience: A Demonstration

Session Type
Special Event/Performance
Session Subtype
Breakout Session
Conference Topics
Singing

Creating a working collaborative environment in a chamber ensemble is a worthwhile and rewarding endeavor that enables singers to share programming ideas, responsibility for the artistic quality of the ensemble and ownership of the final product. Musical direction and decision-making in a chamber ensemble can be a daunting and exhaustive process without a good division of labor, delegation of responsibilities, and framework in which to rehearse and perform and an agreed upon focus of excellence. This session led by the fully collaborative ensemble Cantus will be beneficial for those starting a small ensemble or conductors or singers looking for ways to improve the processes of their current group.

The elements covered in this breakout session will include:
• A short performance and introduction
• Presentation on artistic leadership and program selection
• Producer system and open rehearsal demonstration
• Tools for success
