Bernstein’s Passion for Peace

Session Type
Special Event/Performance
Session Subtype
Breakout Session

Leonard Bernstein’s dedication to the music education of young people and his passion for peace inspired Doreen Rao’s newly edited concert edition of MASS for school, community, and church choirs, a project that sought to bring what biographer Humphrey Burton called Bernstein’s "most original work" to those choirs unable to support the original full-scale theatre production. The performance of this concert edition of MASS provides choirs and audiences alike with a uniquely moving experience, suited for concert stage or worship service. Doreen Rao, joined by Norman Scribner, Scott Tucker, and Joan Gregoryk, will focus on how MASS exemplifies the artistic, educational, and social missions of diversity and inclusion.
