Panelists representing Christian, Jewish, and Islamic choral and vocal traditions will explore the ways in which repertoire relates to composition, programming, and social change activism. Composer Joshua Fishbein will discuss his Judeo-Christian and Judeo-Islamic choral compositions that set texts in Hebrew, Latin, English, and Arabic. Singer and conductor Adam Reinwald will share excerpts from his recent Call-to-Prayer program with the National Lutheran Choir. Finally, conductor and ethnomusicologist André de Quadros will talk about his experiences working with Palestinians and Israelis, and with Muslim communities, to empower and create understanding. The session will use scores, programs, recordings, and videos to engage with the issues raised by bringing sometimes conflicting world-views together.
