Position Summary: 
The Executive Director (ED) has overall responsibility for the management of the San Francisco Bach Choir (SFBC). The ED works with the Artistic Director in planning and executing the season, community programs, concerts, and choir-building activities. The ED develops marketing and communications plans, community activities, and works closely with the Development Committee of the board in leading fundraising efforts. The ED is responsible for the daily operations of the choir, including supervision of the Operations Manager,  concert management, and ticket sales.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Partner with the Artistic Director in planning and executing choir season, including concert planning, community programs, singer recruitment strategies, program production, budget, orchestral musicians and soloist hiring, and additional activities as needed.  
  2. Work closely with the Board Development Committee in developing and implementing fundraising activities, including planning, campaign implementation, donor cultivation and retention, grant-writing, and reporting.
  3. Develop and manage the annual budget in partnership with Board Treasurer.
  4. Oversee all marketing/communications, including traditional media, social media, advertising, audience development, and ticket sales.
  5. Oversee all operations, including supervision of Operations Manager and other staff, venue planning, contracting, and management.  
  6. Work closely with the Board of Directors, participate in Board Committees as indicated and present regular reports at Board meetings.
  7. Build relationships with singers, and partner with Artistic Director for choir recruiting, retention, and singer community-building activities.
  8. Partner with and/or supervise volunteers and actively promote volunteerism within the organization. 
  9. Work in collaboration with the Artistic Director and Board of Directors in developing and executing the strategic plan.  Manage the SFBC annual implementation plan, track progress and communicate issues, risks, and successes to the Board of Directors.

  3. Knowledge of and appreciation for classical choral music.
  4. Experience in providing dynamic leadership in a changing performing arts environment.
  5. Experience in fundraising for performing arts non-profits, including donor development, grant writing, and fundraising campaigns.
  6. Experience in driving successful marketing and promotional strategies.
  7. Excellent writing skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a broad range of people.
  8. Experience in budget management and reporting.
  9. Strong organizational skills and the ability to simplify and streamline operational processes.
  10. Program management experience with the ability to lead multiple workgroups and activities.
  11. Excellent computer skills (CRM software, Google Workspace).

Reports To: President, Board of Directors

Hours and Working Conditions:
40 hours/week full-time, exempt position. Work from home, some night and weekend hours for in-person rehearsals, meetings, concerts, and events in San Francisco and the East Bay.

Compensation and Benefits: 
  • Salary Range: $55,000–$75,000 depending on experience
  • Paid sick leave
  • 401(K) with employer match of 3%
