Summary of Position

The Marketing and Communications Manager reports to the Deputy Director and works closely with the Executive and Artistic Directors to create and implement marketing campaigns, develop and meet sales goals, and elevate the Choral Arts brand.  Responsibilities include creating print and digital marketing materials, maintaining social media presence, and overseeing patron services and box office functions.  The candidate must be adaptive, collaborative, highly organized, and responsive to the changing needs of the organization.  Excellent writing and editing skills along with a savvy ability for data management/analysis and digital platforms are necessary. This position is expected to work in the Choral Arts office (Dupont Circle, Monday – Friday, 10 am – 6 pm), with an opportunity to work some hours remotely. Evening and weekend hours are required at Choral Arts concerts and events.


Duties: Marketing and Communications - 80%

  • Develop and execute Choral Arts’ strategy for advertising, press, social media, and other digital communications to promote awareness as well as comprehensive season marketing and ticket sales plans for Choral Arts concerts
  • Manage production and distribution of all Choral Arts collateral
  • Lead efforts to increase brand recognition of Choral Arts in support of reputation, fundraising, and audience building
  • Manage external vendor relationships: graphic designers, digital consultants, webmaster, photographers, press consultants
  • Maximize digital analytics for engagement and employ digital advertising tools to grow audiences
  • Review, maintain, and improve tracking systems to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of all Choral Arts marketing campaigns and activities
  • Propose, implement, and adhere to annual budget approved for the department
  • Other duties as assigned and required

 Patron Services and Box Office Supervision - 20%

  • Coordinate annual season ticket renewal process with Patron Services Coordinator
  • Maintain and facilitate ticketing relationships with Kennedy Center and partner organizations
  • Oversee box office functions: coordinate with Patron Services Coordinator to provide suburb service to Choral Arts patrons; prepare all reporting and reconciliation statements for each concert
  • Supervise front-of-house staff (and volunteers, if needed) at concerts



  • A minimum of four years’ experience in marketing, performing arts preferred
  • Experience with marketing and public relations strategies
  • Highly responsible and professional demeanor
  • Ability to take independent initiative and be a team player in a collaborative environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; fluency of databases a plus (Choral Arts uses PatronManagerCRM); proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite preferred. 
  • Excellent communications, writing and editing skills
  • Ability to set and meet sales goals
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours
  • Sense of humor and interest in and appreciation of music and/or the arts


Compensation and Benefits: 

Salary range: $55,000 - $65,000 annually. Benefits package includes health insurance with a prescription drug, dental, and eye plans (substantially underwritten by Choral Arts); parking or Metro benefits provided; voluntary retirement plan with employer match (employer match becomes fully vested after 2 years of service); vacation, sick, and personal leave; short-term and long-term disability, and life insurance.
