Organization Summary:


Capital Harmony Works is a creative youth development organization that empowers young people as teams of musicians, providing an environment of high expectations and abundant opportunity, and enriching the community through the joyful pursuit of excellence together. It was formed in February of 2022 by the joining together of Trenton Children’s Chorus with Trenton Music Makers.


PURPOSE:  The Executive Director is responsible for developing a shared vision, mission, and goals to advance the mission.  Responsible for developing and implementing fundraising systems and strategies that enables the organization to meet its development goals and carry out programs and operations.  Overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the organization, by developing strong listening relationships with the program leaders and supporting program goals that are developed collaboratively. Together with the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director will have joint responsibility for developing and maintaining a strong working relationship and a system for sharing information that enables the board to effectively carry out its governance role.  Serves as a primary spokesperson and public face of the organization and ensures that financial resources are managed wisely, ensuring the organization’s goals and strategic plan.




Strategic Leadership and Program Supervision

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of the organization.
  • Accountable for building and leading a high performing team that is aligned and collaborates to achieve the CHW mission. 
  • Assesses organizational capacity, identifies gaps, and implements system or staff improvement plans to establish and deliver desired outcomes.
  • Conduct annual assessments of direct reports and supervising the assessment process of other staff conducted by their immediate supervisors.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Trustees in the establishment of CHW policies and strategic plans and provide support in monitoring their implementation.
  • Represent the organizational leadership as an ex-officio member of the Board, and each of the Board Committees. Select and support appropriate staff members for Board and Committee meeting participation.
  • Regular oversight and bi-monthly reporting of budget, in consultation with program director(s) and the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees; supervision and implementation of appropriate spending to maintain a balanced budget; reporting to institutional funders.
  • Audited Financial Statements and Tax Filing and reporting to federal and state tax authorities; maintain current business and non-profit licensure with municipal authorities. Communicates with and supports the work of the contracted accounting firm in preparation of the audited financials in collaboration with the Business Manager.


Communications & Public Relations

  • Establish and support the annual communications plan and goals for utilizing various channels that include organization’s website, email marketing, monthly digital newsletter and social media platforms.
  • Represent Capital Harmony Works among community organizations, and as its spokesperson for public events sponsored by Capital Harmony Works and by others.
  • Planning and executing the CHW Annual Report



  • Directs and collaborates with the Director of Development and Grants Specialist in the ongoing stewardship of institutional funders, and with the Director of Development in the stewardship of individual donors.
  • Corporate Support: research and networking with potential sources of corporate support.  Direct responsibility for ensuring compliance in the use of funds received and ongoing stewardship of corporate funders.
  • Government Funding: support for contract grant writer’s research into local, statewide and federal sources of funding, and preparation of government grant proposals. Direct responsibility for ensuring compliance in use of grant funds.
  • Major Gifts and Family Foundations: in consultation with the Board of Trustees and collaboration with the Director of Development, identification of appropriate prospects, and the cultivation of those prospects; leading role in solicitation of gifts; stewardship of major donors in collaboration with the Board of Trustees.
  • Annual Fundraising and Benefit: collaboration with Development Director to establish an annual donor communications plan that balances the sharing of news, the solicitation of donations, and expressions of gratitude.
  • Benefit Event: support the Director of Development, Board of Trustees and the Benefit Host Committee in planning an annual fundraising event. Support the Director of Development Associate in carrying out the tasks associated with producing the event.
  • Fundraising Events: support the Board of Trustees in holding smaller introductory events, including or not including student performances, to cultivate new donors and steward current donors.


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of experience or High School Diploma/Equivalency and 15+ years of experience in nonprofit management
  • Superior written and verbal communications skills
  • Demonstrated hands-on budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting


  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations; experience in grant writing
  • Experience in direct and digital marketing
  • An appreciation of excellence in the arts and the impact to social development
  • Strong network of Trenton/Mercer/NJ connections

Compensation and Benefits: 

Salary Min $72k – Mid $83K – Max 92K, Commensurate with experience
