Choral Arts Director
The Board of Directors of One Voice Chorus Richmond seeks the services of a choral arts director to lead the full Chorus and smaller Ensemble. Services are part-time by contract. Historically, the non-auditioned 125+ member Chorus has performed three community concerts a year with diverse repertoire in large venues. The auditioned 25+ member Ensemble performs shorter concerts in smaller venues and at community events. Services are anticipated to begin in December 2022.
One Voice Chorus (www.onevoicechorus.org) is a non-profit, non-auditioned, intentionally integrated chorus bringing a musically diverse range of excellent choral performances to people in Richmond, VA and wherever there are those who need to hear our voice. Qualifications.
- Master’s Degree in music and experience in choral conducting, or equivalent experience
- Experience working with adult choruses in choral techniques, vocal production, musicianship, languages, and musical background/historical context
- Broad knowledge of choral repertoire, including classical, spirituals, jazz, and pop
- Excellent communication skills and ability to conduct productive and fun rehearsals
- Commitment to the organization’s values, as well as principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Managing Director, accompanist, and the Board to ensure program excellence and impact
- Flexibility is required to meet the requirements of the job, including evenings and weekends
Services.
- Planning concerts and musical selections for the full Chorus and Ensemble in coordination with the Board.
- Managing and conducting weekly rehearsals (currently Monday evenings, with occasional Friday evenings and Saturdays).
- Identifying performance opportunities for and preparing and conducting the Ensemble.
- Working with the Managing Director on chorus logistics and concert management, including timely provision of required materials for concert programs and promotional materials.
- Assisting with the recruitment and retention of chorus members, particularly singers of color.
- Building a positive singing environment and general experience for Chorus members.
- Attending Board meetings and other meetings as required.
Part-time contractor; fee dependent on qualifications and experience.
