Youth Choir Director

The Celebration Singers of Cranford, NJ, a premier NJ-based adult community choral group that has been in existence for over 75 years, is seeking an experienced choral director to lead its approximately 25 member mixed children’s/teen choir.  

Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in music or equivalent knowledge/experience

• Significant experience working with young singers

• Broad knowledge of choral repertoire for the young singer

• Positive contact and rapport with parents

• Excellent teaching, verbal and written communication skills

• Willingness to work collaboratively with the Artistic Director/Conductor of the Adult Choir and Board of Directors

• Be flexible, open to opinions, and share vision with Artistic Director and Board in regards to the organization's continued development and creative path

• Be open to performing combined numbers with the adult choir during all major concerts

• Ability to conduct instrumentalists

• Keyboard skills a plus but not required

Responsibilities:

• Direct the choir in performance which include a 2-night holiday concert in December, a 1 or 2 -night spring concert in May/June and additional performances as applicable, which may include a showcase in February. 

• Audition prospective members

• Conduct rehearsals; prepare the choir for all performances including teaching the children's choir part of all combined numbers.

• Select appropriate music based on the theme of the concert agreed upon by the Artistic Director and Board

• Take an active role in recruitment of new members and audience development

• Attend board meetings
