Artistic Director
The Detroit Women’s Chorus seeks to provide an inclusive celebration of the power and beauty of voices through song: creating community and building unity throughout the Metro Detroit area. Our goal is to create a safe space for all self-identifying women to express themselves through the choral arts.
STATEMENT OF THE POSITION: The Artistic Director sets the artistic vision of the Detroit Women’s Chorus and serves as its conductor. They will be knowledgeable, personable, self-sufficient, and detail-oriented, and will work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to organize logistics for rehearsals and concerts. They will be expected to have had a minimum of three years' experience in assisting or directing vocal ensembles. They must also have the ability to teach vocal technique to inexperienced singers using a diverse array of methods from sheet music to rote. Most importantly, the Artistic Director will support and embrace the goals and values of the Detroit Women’s Chorus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct weekly rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances

Plan the program for the season, including repertoire, venue selection, and the scheduling of rehearsals

Be the primary contact, alongside the Executive Director, with venues, site-contacts, and collaborators

Attend monthly Board meetings

Represent the DWC in social/public settings, in the press, on social media, etc.

Approach music-making with positivity, patience, and inclusivity
Compensation will be commensurate with education, experience, and season length. Range: $8,000 - $12,000 annually. This is a contract position. Selected candidate will receive a 1099 for tax purposes.
