Nonprofit boards can be a blessing or a curse. Some are too hands-off, some are suffocating, while others strike the perfect balance of "just right". How can you—as a staff member, volunteer, or board leader—channel your board's energy and enthusiasm into productive efforts? What resources exist to help board members understand their roles—and those of the artists and staff? What strategies can you use when conflicts arise between staff and musicians and board members over the direction in which the organization should go? We'll look at practical aspects of good board governance and consider real-life examples offered by the session's participants.
