The Tucson Masterworks Chorale seeks to fill the part-time position of Artistic Director

The Tucson Masterworks Chorale is a choral ensemble comprised of both amateur and trained singers currently numbering close to 100 members.  Now entering its 73rd season in Southern Arizona, the Chorale presents programs featuring the great choral works from pre-Baroque to modern eras with an emphasis on making the music accessible to singers and audiences from all walks of life.   • Advanced degree in Choral Conducting or equivalent
  • Experience in choral and instrumental conducting
  • Knowledge of choral music and experience with a variety of musical styles and traditions
  • Ability to work effectively with singers with a range of musical abilities
  • Openness to developing repertoire suited to and reflective of the Chorale community
  • Proficiency in coordinating the logistical and musical elements of concert performances
  • Facility in developing a strong working relationship with an accompanist
  • Represent the Tucson Masterworks Chorale as a spokesperson for promotions
  • Sensitivity to diverse background(s) of members
  • Efficiency and clarity in communication
  • Aptitude for leadership
  • Capacity to work through problems even-handedly and to resolve conflict kindly and firmly

Principal Duties:

  • Develop culturally relevant repertoire for the Chorale in conjunction with the Board of Directors
  • Plan annual concert series, in cooperation with the Board of Directors
  • Determine the instrumentalists, soloists and part rental/sheet music needs of each concert, and submit a budget to the Board of Directors for approval before each concert season
  • Train, rehearse and direct the Chorale, including vocal/physical warm ups, learning the music and preparing for public performance
  • Organize sectionals and occasional additional rehearsals as needed
  • Conduct the Chorale, orchestra, and soloists at concerts
  • Arrange for a substitute Choral Director in his or her absence
  • Attend monthly meetings of the Board of Directors and provide a verbal report
  • Maintain positive relationships with the Chorale and the Board through effective and timely oral and written interpersonal communications
  • Support social gatherings of the Chorale
  • Work with the Board to coordinate details for the Chorale’s public performances
  • Work with the Accompanist to prepare music
  • Work with the Board to suggest rehearsal aids
  • Collaborate in the organization’s outreach and administrative activities as needed.
Compensation and Benefits: 

Poition is part-time without benefits. Compensation is $9000 for 10 month season.
