Siskiyou Singers, a community chorus based in Ashland, Ore., participated in the 37th annual Alta Pusteria International Choir Festival in Italy in June. The five-day non-competitive festival attracted 82 choirs and more than 3,000 singers from 16 countries; performances were held in churches, concert halls, and outdoor venues in towns throughout the Pusteria Valley, including Austria. Siskiyou Singers, directed by Mark Reppert, presented a wide-ranging repertoire of American works, including William L. Dawson’s arrangement of the spiritual “Ain’-a That Good News!” and Shawn Kirchner’s version of the traditional Appalachian song “Bright Morning Stars.” Before and after the festival, the choir also presented concerts in churchs in Como, Cremona, and Venice.
