PROGRAM OVERVIEW

A Cappella Conducting Masterclass
Hosted by VocalEssence and St. Olaf College

Friday, October 5 through Monday, October 8, 2007
Minneapolis, MN

Chorus America continues its series of highly successful professional development programs for conductors by collaborating with VocalEssence and St. Olaf College.

The program will provide conductors with intensive conducting sessions, focused enrichment sessions, interactions with master conductors, and valuable networking forums. In addition, selected Conducting Fellows will have at least an hour of podium time working with a fully prepared professional chorus, under the tutelage of master conductors.

  • Work with celebrated conductors and teachers on the unique challenges of
    a cappella
    repertoire, including classical, gospel/spiritual, and contemporary works
  • Move to the next level of professional development while refining conducting technique
  • Build career-enhancing connections with conducting colleagues and mentors


ENRICHMENT SESSIONS

Special interest enrichment sessions for Masterclass participants include:

  • Conducting technique
  • Sound as artistry
  • Repertoire
  • Working with living composers


CONDUCTING SESSIONS & LESSONS

Conducting Sessions for Conducting Fellows: Each Conducting Fellow will have one hour of podium time. Conducting Fellows will have the opportunity to review video recordings of each podium session in consultation with one of the private coaches.

Private Lessons for Conducting Associates: Conducting Associates will be scheduled for a lesson with a private coach, with a topic/focus selected by each Associate, which may include a personal video review.

Enrichment Sessions: All participants will attend informative enrichment sessions on essential topics for professional development.

Advisor Meetings: All Fellows will be assigned to an advisor selected from the private coaches, and will meet in small groups during the Masterclass.
